The Barn House Basics Story

The move from cupcakes to words of encouragement

What started as a family project to sell baked goods at our local farmer's market has changed and grown beyond what we ever could've imagined when we began back in January of 2014. We loved the opportunities and interactions at markets but had to change the direction of our small family business when our youngest son had to undergo some major dietary changes later that summer. We could no longer sell the delicious baked goods we once did.

After an opportunity to take a basic graphic design class we were inspired to begin making signs and small gifts containing messages of hope, encouragement, and love for our home state of Michigan. From our beginning days of making signs with a vinyl cutter, we grew our sign and gift making capabilities by adding a laser and later a UV printer to our equipment options. This gave us the opportunity to expand our sign and gift offerings as well as have the capacity to wholesale some items we make to other small retailers.

After 4 years of setting up at our local farmers market and traveling to upscale craft shows and vintage markets, we opened our brick and mortar store on November 10, 2017, in the beautiful downtown South Haven, MI lakeshore community. You can find us today at 201 Center Street South Haven, MI connected to the Historic Hotel Nichols.

Our mission at Barn House Basics is to create quality products that bring encouragement to your home and provide opportunities to give meaningful gifts.
